EleCare is a nutritionally complete amino acid-based formula for infants who cannot tolerate intact or hydrolyzed protein.
On Feb. 17, 2022, Abbott Nutrition recalled three of its baby formula brands after it received reports of infants getting sick with potentially life-threatening bacterial infections. The recall affects select lots of Similac, EleCare and Alimentum formula.
The FDA advises consumers not to use recalled Similac, Alimentum or EleCare (including EleCare Jr.) powdered infant formulas.

All three brands are made by Abbott Nutrition. Both Alimentum and EleCare are specialized formulas.
In my time working with reflux babies, I have seen many with MSPI or milk and soy protein intolerance. These babies will also do better with a formula like Nutramigen. In extreme cases a "hypoallergenic" formula like EleCare may also be needed. Probiotics can be a good addition to treating an acid reflux baby's pain.
The reason why EleCare is more expensive than Nutramigen is because it takes more effort to create amino acids rather than breaking down proteins into smaller parts. Nutramigen uses extensively hydrolyzed cow's milk for its formula. EleCare is more expensive as it uses amino-acids and not hydrolyzed cow's milk protein.
Most pharmacies and homecare suppliers have policies that require a prescription to purchase this product.
Elecare® Vanilla – complete, balanced nutrition for children over one year of age with cow's milk protein allergy and other food allergies. Amino acid based infant formula with a pleasant vanilla flavour.
